St. Joe’s outlasted Shoreland 1-0 in a Metro Classic Conference season finale played at Jaskwhich Stadium. The victory improved the Lancers to 8-0 in conference play and gave St. Joe’s the outright MCC title. The Lancers shared the MCC title last year with The Prairie School, but stand alone on top this year. Over the past 2 years, Lancers are 15-0-1 in the Metro Classic, and 22-1-1 in MCC play over the span of 3 years (2019, 2021 and 2022 seasons, excluding the covid year), which represents the time of the 8 graduating seniors who were honored during halftime.

One senior that St. Joe’s will undoubtedly miss next year is Martina H, who once again was the difference maker of the match.  Martina headed in an Ava R corner in the 10th minute of the match, giving the Lancers a 1-0 lead which held for the match.

Coach Gino Alia: “We really struggled as a team in this match. For whatever reason, things weren’t clicking and we just seemed out of sorts. The positive in that is this team still persevered, which in many respects is a testament to our seniors. We knew the significance of this game, and ultimately we did what we set out to do. It wasn’t pretty or easy, but it was earned and well-deserved.”

The Lancers finished this regular season 12-1-1 (8-0 in the Metro Classic). St. Joe’s the 6th ranked team in D-4, earned the #2 seed in Division 4 (Sectional 4) for the upcoming WIAA State Soccer Tournament. The Lancers are idle until Saturday, June 4, when they will host the winner of Racine Lutheran-Hertitage Christian.
