St. Joe’s beat Burlington Catholic Central 5-1 in a Metro Classic matchup played at Bushnell Field in Burlington. St. Joe’s led 2-0 at half with Martina H (assist Kaitlyn V) and Ava R (unassisted) scoring for the Lancers. Martina (assist Sydney A) and Ava (assist Martina) repeated their efforts in the second half, each scoring a goal to build a 4-0 led for St. Joe’s. Kaitlyn added her own goal for the Lancers (assist Martina) to finish out the scoring. BCC was awarded a penalty late in the game, accounting for its lone goal. The 5-1 victory kept the Lancers in pace with Prairie for top billing in the conference with 1 game to play. St. Joe’s hosts perennial rival St. Cats this Friday at Anderson/Troha (note: new scheduled start time of 4 pm for all those fans and alum).
Coach Gino Alia: “This was a solid team effort for the win. BCC scouted us well, and frustrated us a little early. We stayed resilient, limited our mistakes and did what we need to do to pull out a victory.”
Allie P, Sydney and Savannah R also turned in solid performances for the Lancers. Sarah R had 3 saves for the Lancers.
