St. Joe’s and Central played to a 2-2 draw in a match played at Anderson/Troha Field.  The Lancers scored in the 17th minute when Martina H converted a penalty kick.  The Falcons tied the match at 1-1 in the 23rd minute.  St. Joe’s took the lead in the 27th minute when junior Kaitlyn Lr put away a Martina cross. The Lancers led 2-1 at half.  Central found the equalizer in the 57th minute when Maddie H laid out for a diving header.  Neither team could find the go-ahead goal. St. Joe’s had 2 golden opportunities in the last 15 minutes – Martina beat the Central back line and almost slid one by keeper Lola M, who made a diving save; Ava R missed just wide right after breaking free down the left side.  Martina finished with 7 shots on goal.

Coach Gino Alia: “It was a very competitive and well-played match.  Both teams were playing at less than 100% physically, but you couldn’t tell by the effort. The effort was outstanding by both teams.  This was the type of game that should help both teams get ready for their final push and hopefully deep playoff runs.”

Defensively, Camryn K, Katelyn V and Daniella B turned in solid performances.  The Lancers sit at 11-1-1, and play Shoreland Lutheran for the outright Metro Classic Conference title Wednesday night, 6:30 pm at Indian Trail (Jaskwhich Stadium). The Lancers also hold the #2 seed in Division 4 (Sectional 4) for the upcoming WIAA State Soccer Tournament.
