Congratulations to the Girls Soccer program for winning fourth consecutive WIAA Regional Championships!!!

The #2 seeded St. Joe’s girls soccer team came out with good energy, but had a number of near misses in the first 10 minutes of its match against #7 seeded Racine Lutheran.  Although St. Joe’s seemed to have thing in control, 2 minutes later they were down 1-0 after Crusader senior Bella J converted a direct kick from 19 yards out to give Racine Lutheran a 1-0 lead.  St. Joe’s responded with the equalizer by senior Elizabeth R in the 19th minute and never looked back. The Lancers scored 11 unanswered goals for an 11-1 victory and 4th consecutive regional championship (covid year excluded).  Senior Martina H had 5 goals and 3 assists (placing her 6th overall in the state for goals, and 4th overall for points per wissports.net); sophomore Ava R had 3 goals and 1 assist; and senior Jayden H added 2 goals for the Lancers.  Katelyn V and Camryn K were credited with assists and also led the Lancers defense along with Daniella B and Hannah K. St. Joe’s senior goalkeeper Maricela O finished with 3 saves for the Lancers.

Coach Gino Alia: “It was a strange start. I don’t know if it was nerves or just some unlucky moments, but we found ourselves in a weird situation in the first 20 minutes of the match. The girls kept their composure, kept their trust in each other, moved and shared the ball, and good things started happening.”

The Lancers improved to 13-1-1 for the season and will host the sectional semifinal against #3 The Prairie School Thursday night (June 9) at 7 pm at Ameche.
