St. Joe’s defeated Kenosha Indian Trail 6-1 in a match hosted by the Hawks at Jaskwhich Stadium. The Lancers started the scoring in the 10th minute when junior Elise H connected off an assist from senior Martina H to give St. Joe’s a 1-0 lead. Senior Elizabeth R scored in the 28th minute, again assisted by Martina, to give the Lancers a 2-0 advantage. Martina put St. Joe’s up 3-0 when her direct kick found the back of the net in the 30th minute.  The Lancers led 3-0 at half.

Mother nature then added to the fun by providing snow-globe like conditions throughout the second half. The Lancers, however, continued their own “flurry” with 3 goals in the second half, Martina first assisting sophomore Ava R for her first goal of the season, and Ava returning the favor by assisting Martina.  An own goal was scored off a Martina cross.  Indian Trail sole goal came off a corner with no time left on the clock.

Statistical leaders: Martina (2 goals; 3 assists), Ava (1 goal, 1 assist), Elise (1 goal), Elizabeth (1 goal)

Coach Gino Alia: “It was a great team effort. I was particularly proud of the play of our back line (Katelyn V, Daniella B, Jayden H and Hannah K). They have some big shoes to fill, and this match was a step in the right direction [Last year’s squad included Savannah Reed, Metro Classic Conference defensive player of the year, now player at UW Stevens Point].  Marti was strong on top, and our midfield - Ava, Elizabeth and Allie P (Jr) - really worked to control the middle. Now we just need to defrost, and we should be good to go.”

St. Joe’s starts conference play Monday at home v. Dominican. The game has been moved to a 6:30 pm start time and to Ameche (given anticipated weather and field conditions).
