Girls Soccer: SJCA 8, USM 0

St. Joe’s scored an 8-0 win over University School of Milwaukee in a non-conference match.  Freshman Ava R and junior Martina H both scored hat tricks – 3 goals each, with Ava adding 2 assists for good measure.  For the season, Martina leads the state with 37 goals and 83 points, while Ava sits in the fifth spot for points (59) and top 10 in goals scored (22) [per wissports.net, 6/2/21].  Kaitlyn V and Allie P added 1 goal apiece. Daniella B had 2 assists, Sydney A and Kaitlyn also had assists.  The Lancers led 3-0 at half, before adding 5 goals in the scored half for the 8-0 final.  The Lancers, now ranked 3rd in the Division 4 Wisconsin State Coaches Association poll, improved to 9-1-2.

 

Coach Gino Alia:  “This was a good win after a 6 day break.  We definitely showed some rust on our finishing in the first half.  In the second half, our defense really stepped up, and set a good tone for our team.  Sydney, Savannah R, Maddie L, Molly M and keeper Sarah R (4 saves) showed exceptional composure and leadership as the game progressed.” 

 

The Lancers are in the midst of playing 3 games over 4 days, with conference matches against Central Catholic (Wed) and St. Cat’s (Fri) on the docket this week.  Frida’s game against St. Cat’s has been moved up to a 4 pm start time at Anderson/Troha field.
