St. Joe’s rolled to a 5-1 win over Shoreland on Friday night. The friendly rivalry match featured 2 teams undefeated in conference play.  The Lancers were led offensively by junior Martina H (2 goals and 1 assist) and freshman Ava R (3 goals, 2 assists), and the defensive efforts of Sydney A, Savannah R, Madison L and goalkeeper Sarah R.

The Lancers dominated the early part of the match.  After knocking on the door a number of times, the Lancers finally broke through in the 11th minute when Martina scored off an Ava assist.  The duo reversed roles for the second Lancer goal in the 35th minute, with Martina assisting Ava's goal in the 35th minute.  Ava struck again in the 40th minute off a Katelyn V assist, giving the Lancer a 3-0 lead at half.

Martina found the back of the net again in the 66th minute for her second goal (Ava assist).  Shoreland netted its first goal a minute later (Yasmine V goal) to close the Lancer lead to 4-1.  St. Joe’s answered in the 72nd minute, with Ava blasting a shot into the left corner of the goal, giving the Lancers the winning margin of 5-1.

Coach Gino Alia:  “First, credit to both teams for playing the right way – with intensity and great sportsmanship.  Our defensive play at all levels and our goalkeeper [Sarah R] were outstanding.  The girls did a great job connecting with one another, and Ava and Martina finished when they needed to.  It’s always hard to predict the outcome of these cross-town, conference rivalry match-ups, but you know that every player leaves it all on the field. Every single girl on our roster tonight worked for and earned this win.”
