The St. Joseph boys soccer team got its season off to a terrific start in the two-day Kenosha Clash, held Tuesday and Wednesday at Ameche Field.

The Lancers emerged with a 2-0 record after defeating Bradford 1-0 on Tuesday and Tremper 4-0 on Wednesday to conclude the event.

On Tuesday, St. Joseph’s Joey Feudner blasted a direct kick into the upper right corner from 30 yards out with seven minutes left in the match for the lone tally against Bradford.

Goalie Patrick Connolly, however, made 19 saves and was the real key to the match.

“Patrick played outstanding and made a number of terrific saves,” said St. Joseph coach Gino Alia, who also cited the play of Andrew Alia, Matt Schulte and Matt Antony in the match.

“He not only kept us in the match but was the difference maker.”

Connolly made another 11 stops in the shutout of Tremper on Wednesday, and the Lancers got a goal from Feudner on a penalty kick after Alia was taken down in the box, as well as tallies from Giovanni Bosco, Adrian Vasquez and Matt Schulte.

Ricardo Vasquez and Feudner had assists.

“When people see these matchups, (a) Division-4 school vs. a Division-1, they generally presume a different outcome, but the games aren’t played on paper,” Gino Alia said. “Both teams have talented players, and we were fortunate to come out on top.”
